Whilst some issues he was very liberal (Health care, welfare, warfare) when (as I specifically mentioned) when it came to RELIGIOUS issues he was either non-commitment (for e.g. abortion he was against it, but pro choice?), for others he was all out against e.g. gay marriage. That being said it all comes down to the supreme court or state legislature if I understand your system correctly. Whilst Hillary was most likely to be the most conservative on some issues, and McCain the dead centre (of course that was until Palin came along.) In any case I do know what I am talking about. And thank you for pointing out some of the previous faulty statements. I must say it will take a lot more than black skin to better Lincoln's policies.
